Spinach-Apple Smoothie

Directions

  1. Combine all ingredients in the blender, adding the liquids first.
  2. Blend until smooth.

  • For additional calories use full-fat yogurt.
  • This is a great smoothie if experiencing a sore mouth and throat.
  • A great nutrient-dense snack.
  • Spinach is a nutrient-dense food and an excellent source of vitamin K and vitamin A, and also a good source of fiber.
  • Spinach has many phytonutrients, in particular the flavonoid kaempferol, which has both disease-prevention and health-promoting properties.
  • Apples contain a wide variety of phytonutrients, many of which have been found to have strong antioxidant activity; an example being the flavonoids (quercetin and naringin).
  • Apples have quite a bit of soluble fiber and are a good source of the immune-boosting antioxidant vitamin C.
